Easy Star Stitch Baby Blanket




This star stitch blanket may appear complicated at first but is actually quite easy once you get going.  The most important thing to keep in mind with the star stitch is keeping your tension consistent.

yarn choice:  anything you want, use measurements for blanket size

hook:  5mm

  • chain 121 … ***you can adjust the size by your chain.  To make your blanket bigger just continue the chain in even numbers of 2 and add 1 extra chain at the end ***

  • in 2nd ch from hook, insert hook and pull up a loop, go into the following ch and p/u a loop

    , continue until you have 6 loops on your hook; y/o and pull through all 6 loops

  • ch.1 to close and create the “eye” of the star stitch
  • go into the eye and p/u a loop, go into last post and p/u a loop, go into last post st and p/u loop, go into following st; p/u loop and go into following st and p/u loop
  • y/o and pull through all 6 loops and ch.1
  • follow to end of ch
  • hdc into last st and turn your work
  • ch1, sc into that first st
  • in the first “eye” of the row do 1 sc
  • in the rest of the “eyes” of the row, do 2 sc in each one all the way across
  • at end of row, sc into last st
  • turn work and ch.2
  • go into front string of 1st ch and pull up loop, go into string on the other side of the same st and pull up a loop, go into base of ch’s and pull up a loop, go into next first st of the row and p/u a loop, go into fo.lowing st and pull up a loop, y/o and pull through all 6 loops
  • cl/w s/c to make the eye
  • continue on with the pattern for this row the same as row 1 and then the next row will be the same as row 2
  • continue on until desired size of blanket is reached.
